Brahmaputra Amantran Abhiyan Flagged Off From Chandrapur, Reaches Guwahati

Brahmaputra Amantran Abhiyan organized by the Brahmaputra Board under the Ministry of Jal Shakti reached Chandrapur Ghat today, January 13.


The expedition team was greeted by Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat along with other key dignitaries from the department at the Chandrapur Ghat. Shekhawat joined the expedition team on their way to Guwahati in a raft.


A day-long progamme on the 14th of January will be organized for the team before they embark on their journey downstream.


The pioneering exploratory open water rafting expedition that was flagged off from Gelling, Arunachal Pradesh on 23rd December, 2020 will culminate at Assameralga, in the South Salmara Mankachar district of Assam.


Brahmaputra Aamantran Abhiyan, an initiative of the Government of India, organized by the Brahmaputra Board (Ministry of Jal Shakti), has a two-pronged approach - a public outreach programme focusing on the younger generation to inculcate the concept of 'Living with the River', and a combined scientific data collection and analysis on river water quality, river sediment, river bank erosion and fish habitat along entire route of the expedition.


The expedition is being supported by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, various Government Organizations viz.- North Eastern Council (MoDoNER), WAPCOS Ltd., Oil India Ltd., NHPC Ltd., National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL).
