Born In Assam, Savitri Jindal Becomes Richest Indian Woman And Fifth Wealthiest Indian 

 

GUWAHATI: Savitri Jindal, the Chairperson of the OP Jindal Group, is India's richest woman and now also the fifth-wealthiest person in the country, as per reports on December 19.

Savitri who was born in Tinsukia, Assam married Om Prakash Jindal in the 1970s, who had founded the Jindal Group, a steel and power conglomerate.

She has experienced an astounding surge in her wealth, witnessing an increase of $9.6 billion in 2023. This growth surpasses that of the Ambani and Birla families, as reported by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. 

Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries (RIL), retains his position as the richest Indian, boasting a total wealth of $92.3 billion.

In the year 2023, Ambani's fortune grew by approximately $5 billion, nearly half of the gain achieved by Jindal, according to media reports. Savitri Jindal, at the age of 73, now stands as the fifth richest Indian and the wealthiest woman in the subcontinent, boasting a net worth of $25.3 billion. She controls a conglomerate overseeing listed companies such as JSW Steel, Jindal Steel & Power, JSW Energy, Jindal Saw, Jindal Stainless, and the investment firm JSW Holdings.

The OP Jindal Group, under her ownership, also maintains an 83% stake in JSW Infrastructure, a port operator that went public in October this year. The Jindal family is contemplating the listing of JSW Cement in 2024.
