Bomb Threats Force Diversion Of Three Flights, Disrupt Mumbai-Howrah Train

 

GUWAHATI: Three flights and a long-distance train departing from Mumbai received bomb threats on Monday, October 14.

Causing significant disruptions and heightened security measures, the affected flights included an Air India flight bound for New York and two IndiGo flights en route to Muscat and Jeddah. A fourth bomb threat was also deciphered for the Mumbai-Howrah mail train in the early hours of the morning.

The Air India flight was carrying 239 passengers and 19 crew members, when the bomb threat was received via a post on X. Following instructions from security agencies, the aircraft was diverted to New Delhi, where it landed safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport. All passengers and crew disembarked safely and were escorted through standard security protocols.

Meanwhile, the two IndiGo flights, 6E 1275 from Mumbai to Muscat and 6E 56 from Mumbai to Jeddah, also received bomb threats. Both planes were moved to isolation bays as part of the airline's security procedures. In a statement, IndiGo Airlines confirmed the incidents, saying, "Following standard operating procedures, security checks were promptly initiated, and customers were provided with assistance and refreshments."

Along with the airline threats, the Mumbai-Howrah mail train (No. 12809) also received a bomb threat at around 4 a.m. The Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railways confirmed that security teams responded immediately to the call, although no further details about the threat or its resolution were released at the time.

Security agencies continue to investigate the sources of the threats, as no explosive devices have been found so far.
