A bomb that was dropped by Royal Air Force (RAF) during the World War 2 detonated just today, 14th October 2020.

The British Tallboy bomb, weighing 5400 kg was reportedly dropped by RAF on a German cruiser in 1945 in Poland.

It was rediscovered during work to deepen some waterway in September 2019, near the Piast Canal outside the town of Swinoujscie in Poland. More than 750 people from the nearby areas were evacuated.

Although the Polish navy rigged a small explosion to disarm the bomb, it blasted completely today after 75 years.

"The deflagration process turned into detonation. The object can be considered as neutralized, it will not pose any more threat," Second-Lieutenant Grzegorz Lewandowski, the spokesman of the 8th Coastal Defence Flotilla, was quoted as saying by Polish media.
