Body of one recovered from Rat Hole Mining Site in Meghalaya

GUWAHATI: At 1 p.m. today, February 27, a joint operation by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Indian Navy took place where they were finally able to retrieve an unidentified body of a trapped miner from the main shaft of a Ksan rat hole, mine number 26 at about 01: 50 p.m.  

Five person's, four NDRF rescuer and one navy personal went down into the main shaft. All safety measures were provided by NDRF. The equipments included an inflatable boat, a body bag and other equipments.  

The body was recovered from 200ft inside the rat hole with the help of a UWROV. The body was then further dispatched to a civil hospital in Khliehriat for post-mortem and any further necessary action. The operation is still ongoing to look for other bodies.  

The illegal rat-hole mine had collapsed on December 13 after water from an adjacent abandoned mine and a nearby river flooded it.
