On the occasion of World Blind Day, people from various locations of the city will take part in Blind Walk Guwahati – 2017, Assam’s largest eye donation campaign.
About 50+ visually challenged people will lead over 300 people in a blind folded walk on October 12, 2017 that will end with a pledge to donate eyes and help the cause of the visually challenged people.
The Blind Walk will start at 7:45 AM at Food Villa, Panbazar. Registration for the same will begin at 7 AM. The walk will conclude at Don Bosco School, Panbazar, spreading the pledge to donate eyes. The event will also include cultural performances and felicitation.
The event is organized by The Project Vision (TPV), a movement to raise awareness about blindness and encourage eye donations, founded by Claretian Fr. George Kannanthanam in Bangalore in 2013. This year it is organizing 250 walks in 5 Countries.
“The Blind Walk Guwahati has brought together over 20 organizations from across the city from various backgrounds & different ideology on a single platform for the first time in years to push for a global movement on eye donations,” Tushar Jalan, Head – Operations & PRO said in a press statement.
“Making sighted people to blindfold themselves and to walk about a kilometre, led by a completely blind person is a lifetime experience which leads them to a pledge to donate their eyes after death,”Aashish Kr Das, Secretary said.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE EVENT -
The walk will be led by blind people - They walk with their white cane in the front leading a group of 10 people who will hold on to the blind person in the front. Blindfolded persons literally will have to depend on them to walk.
