BJP sweeps Tribal Council Elections

GUWAHATI: The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) swept the autonomous tribal council polls in the Mising Autonomous Council (MAC), the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) and the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council (SKAC) even amid continuous protests over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.

BJP along with Jautha Sangram Samity won 34 out of 36 seats in RHAC where the AGP and Congress won one seat each. In SKAC, the BJP grabbed 18 seats.

Further, BJP and Ganashakti party together managed to win 34 out of 35 seats in MAC.

The BJP had earlier also won the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council elections as well as the panchayat elections in Assam.
