GUWAHATI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) doesn’t have the courage to bring up the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) topic in Assam. This was stated by Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said on Monday, March 1 during her two-day campaign trip to the poll-bound Assam.
The Congress leader said that the people of Assam are smart and they see through the lies. "I believe they will vote for those who will uplift Assam’s identity and tradition," Priyanka Gandhi Vadra further said.
Priyanka Gandhi also claimed that the ruling BJP talks about the controversial CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) all over the country but when it comes to Assam, they lack courage. The Congress General Secretary also tried to reach out to the youth and women in the poll-bound state during her first visit since the announcement of Assam poll dates last week. Elections in Assam will be held in three phases starting March 27.
The citizenship law stirred much controversy, chaos and violence across the country after it was passed in December 2019. Five people lost their lives and dozens suffered injuries in protests that were followed by suspension of internet services and a curfew in Guwahati.
