BJP building party office by encroaching government land: Ripun Bora

GUWAHATI: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Ripun Bora accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of doing a politics of blackmail and neglecting the Assamese sentiments. Speaking to media persons in Guwahati the state Congress president said, “They lost the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in Rajya Sabha but have not learnt any lessons. Again yesterday in Lakhimpur, Amit Shah threatened to bring back the bill once they come back to power. It shows their nature of politics that even after the people of Assam have spoken against the bill they continue to undermine it.”

The Congressman said that the BJP was dangerous for Assam and should be rejected in the coming Lok Sabha polls.

Attacking BJP national president Amit Shah, the Congress leader said, “Amit Shah said that BJP will not let Assam become Kashmir. We say that we will not let it become Tripura where the indigenous people lost everything. The current Kashmir situation is BJP’s doing. The BJP had said in 2013 that they will send bangles to then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh when terrorists attacked. What have they to say now?”

Ripun Bora also attacked BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma and accused him of spreading misinformation.

“Himanta Biswa Sarma keeps telling everywhere that satra (Vaishnavite centre of learning) lands have been taken. We ask him to produce a white paper on this issue,” said Bora.

Furthering his attack Ripun Bora accused the BJP of trying to build the state BJP headquarters on government land. “Who is the encroacher? BJP is the encroacher. They have taken the water resources department’s land forcibly to build the party office. There is proof that BJP has taken the government land to construct their office. BJP should stop lying and Himanta Biswa Sarma should come forward and explain,” said Bora.
