GUWAHATI: Bureau of Investigation (Economic Offences) (BIEO) arrested one person Majnur Ali with the help of the Howly Police Station on December 14. Ali was arrested on 2-year-old charges of selling Public Distribution System (PDS) rice in a different bag.
BIEO authority said that he has been taken into police custody for two days.
On August 27, 2020, BIEO supply Inspector Dilip Kumar Deka filed a written complaint that 180 bags of grade A rice, 6 bags of FCI mark sticker rice, a sack sewing machine and 2000 yellow plastic bags were recovered from Majnur Ali's house at Borbala village in Barpeta district of Assam. According to the report, the house was rented by Saifuddin Islam even though the owner is Majnur Ali.
They escaped when BIEO officials raided the place. So the lock was broken in front of the local headman and senior citizens, thereafter the sleuths of BIEO entered the house and seized the suspected items.
The seized items were handed over to west Betbari Samabai Samiti. Since then BIEO has been trying to catch Majnur Ali and Saifuddin Islam. After Majnur Ali's arrest, the BIEO are still trying to get a hold of Saifuddin Islam.
