This visit to Assam by the Bhutanese King coincides closely with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent two-day state visit to Bhutan. During his time in Bangladesh, King Wangchuck held discussions with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, where both leaders acknowledged the advancements made in bilateral relations between their respective countries.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi, during his visit to Bhutan, was bestowed with Bhutan's highest civilian honour, the 'Order of the Druk Gyalpo'. In a gesture of gratitude, PM Modi dedicated this prestigious award to the people of India, expressing confidence in the continued growth of the relationship between India and Bhutan to the benefit of both nations. PM Modi's receipt of this honour marks him as the first foreign dignitary and the fourth individual overall to be granted this distinction.

Before departing for New Delhi, PM Modi inaugurated the Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck Mother and Child Hospital in Bhutan, a project fully funded by the Indian government. Additionally, PM Modi held discussions with Bhutan's King at the Tashichho Dzong Palace in Thimphu, reaffirming the special and enduring ties shared between India and Bhutan.
