In the backdrop of the ongoing unrest around the state following the passing of the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill, DGP in-charge of Assam, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta has been appointed the DGP of Assam Police.
In a notification issued by the Home (A) Department, Govt of Assam, it read, “In the interest of Public Service, Shri Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, IPS (RR – 1988), Special Director General of Police (Border), Assam and Director, Fire and Emergency Services, Assam who was allowed vide Government Notification No HMA 193/2019/304 dated 29/11/2019 to look afte the currect duties of Director General of Police, Assam is hereby promoted and posted as Director General of Police, Assam in the Apex Scale of pay in Level 17 the pay matrix with effect from date of taking over charge.”
