GUWAHATI: The six-lane Basistha-Jalukbari stretch of the Guwahati Bypass was officially opened by Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma on March 14.

The project, which cost ₹486 crore and spans 17 kilometers, was completed about five months earlier than the expected deadline of August 2024.
The inauguration ceremony included various dignitaries including the Mayor of GMC, Mrigen Sarania, MPs Queen Oja and Pabitra Margherita, as well as Raj Chakrabarty, Special Commissioner & Special Secretary to Public Works (B & NH), and members of NHAI.

The project, part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana, includes the construction of four flyovers at Basistha, Lokhra, Gorchuk, and Boragaon, as well as two vehicular underpasses near Beharbari and Jayanagar. The consultant for the project is M/S TPF Engineering Pvt. Ltd. in association with M/S MAV Associates LLP, while the construction contractor is M/S Dhariwal Buildtech Ltd.
The road, previously consisting of four lanes, has been expanded to six lanes with three lanes on each side, along with service lanes and roadside drains. Additionally, there are 26 box culverts along the stretch.
The budget allocation for the four flyovers is as follows:
Boragaon - ₹25.32 crore
Gorchuk - ₹25.64 crore
Lokhra - ₹31.83 crore
Basistha - ₹28.89 crore.
