Attending School Not Mandatory, Clarifies Assam Government

GUWAHATI: Assam government has clarified the recent Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) regarding the opening of schools from 21st September.
 

In a press release, it stated that the reopening is only for ‘partial resumption’ in activities in schools and colleges for students. There will be “no compulsory” classes as of now. The students will have to visit their schools on a voluntary basis for ‘taking Guidelines’ & ‘Counselling’ from the teachers.


Earlier, the Assam Government had released SOP for reopening of schools and other educational institutes in the state from September 21. 


As per the guidelines, students from Classes 9 to 12 will be allowed to attend schools and colleges, while all other classes will continue to remain suspended. 


It further stated that for the students of class 9 and 12, classes will be conducted on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. On the other hand, for students of class 10 and 11, classes will be held on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.


Schools in Assam have remained shut since March 15 due to COVID-19 outbreak.
