GUWAHATI: The Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) is all set to introduce 15 electric buses in the city from October 30, keeping in mind the deteriorating air quality of the state.

Based on reports, the corporation will start operation of 15 buses in the first phase, however their goal is to cover all major arterial routes in the city.

The buses will be deployed phase-wise in all the routes to provide emission-free communication in the city and charging stations will be installed at Inter-State Bus Terminal, Guwahati and Assam State Transport Corporation’s Paltan Bazar complex.

These 15 buses will travel from Panbazar to Kamakhya temple and after the next consignment of electric buses arrive, newer routes will be added.

It should be noted that the fares for these buses would remain the same unless they are revised by the state authorities.

These electric buses have been launched under the Faster Adoption and Manufacture of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme.
