Assam’s Sanskrit Tols To Become Specialised Schools

GUWAHATI: Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu conducted a comprehensive review of the 97 Sanskrit Tols spread across the state during a meeting with teaching and non-teaching staff at Janata Bhawan, Guwahati.

These Sanskrit Tols are now set to undergo a transformation, rebranded as special schools dedicated to teaching Sanskrit, Vedas, Astrology, Vastu Shastras, alongside modern subjects like science and mathematics.

To implement this vision, a seven-member committee has been constituted, with the Vice-Chancellor of Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University appointed as the committee's chairperson. The committee's primary objective is to formulate the modalities for this transformative initiative. A comprehensive report is expected from the committee within a month.

Minister Pegu highlighted that the goal is to integrate traditional knowledge with contemporary subjects, providing a holistic education that embraces both the rich cultural heritage and modern advancements. Admissions to these rebranded schools are anticipated to commence from the upcoming academic year, following the necessary measures by the School Education Department.
