Assam’s Road Fatalities Dropped By 14% In 2024, Claims Assam CM

GUWAHATI: Assam’s road fatalities have dropped down to 14% in 2024, with 2521 deaths reported till the month of November. This was revealed during the State cabinet meeting that was held in Dibrugarh on Monday, December 23.

“Road fatalities in Assam are down 14%,” Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared an update regarding the same on X. “However we are committed to mitigate the menace of road accidents, particularly during the upcoming holiday season.”

Further reports revealed that in December 2023, the total number of fatalities were 210, while the recorded number of deaths for this year’s December 1-20, is 142.

Districts that registered the highest number of fatalities for the month of November include Guwahati, Goalpara, Dibrugarh, Sonitpur, Dhubri, Tinsukia, Baksa, Golaghat, Bongaigaon, and Nagaon.

Guwahati registered an increase of 31.82% compared to last year, and most of these accidents have occurred between the Jalukbari-Khanapara stretch.
