Assam’s Golaghat Commerce College Granted Autonomous Status for 10 Years by UGC

GUWAHATI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has accorded  autonomous status to Golaghat Commerce College. The decision, which was taken in its meeting on August 27, was conveyed on Tuesday, September 24.

The decision to grant autonomous status to Golaghat Commerce College has been taken as per Clause 7.5 of the UGC (Conferment of Autonomous Status Upon Colleges and Measures of Maintenance of Standards in Autonomous Colleges) Regulations, 2023 for the period of 10 years from academic year 2024-2025 to 2033-2034.

Since Golaghat Commerce College is under Dibrugarh University, Golaghat Commerce College is duty-bound to follow all the provisions of UGC Regulations for Autonomous Colleges. In cases of breaches of the provisions, actions can be undertaken as referred to in Clause 13 of the UGC Regulations, 2023.

The university has been asked to issue a necessary notification within 30 days regarding the grant of autonomous status. The college must apply for an extension of its autonomous status at least three months before the completion of the period of autonomy.
