Assam's Charaideo Maidam Proposed For Nomination For UNESCO World Heritage Site Status

 

GUWAHATI: The ancient pyramids of Assam, known as Charaideo Maidam, are now on the brink of potentially achieving UNESCO World Heritage Site status after Prime Minister Narendra Modi submitted a proposal to UNESCO for its nomination. The nomination will make Charaideo Maidam the sole historical site in India for consideration for this prestigious recognition.

Following the submission of the proposal, a team from UNESCO conducted site inspections to assess the historical significance and preservation of Charaideo Maidam. These pyramids hold immense historical importance as they serve as the final resting place for members of the Ahom royal family.

Assam's tourism minister Jayanta Mallabaruah expressed his excitement over the prospect of Charaideo Maidam attaining UNESCO World Heritage Site status. He highlighted the historic significance of the Ahom royal burial grounds, stating that nomination will mark a pivotal moment for Assam's culture and civilisation.
