GUWAHATI: A woman from Lakhimpur district in Assam had killed her husband on May 28, after being subjected to years of physical and mental torture.
After killing her husband, she severed his head and reached the nearest police station, carrying the head in a plastic bag. The woman has been identified as Guneswar Barkakaty.

"He used to beat me up and has also injured me with an axe on several occasions. I thought of leaving him but didn’t due to my children. In the end, I had to kill him or else he would've killed me," Guneswar told the police.
Guneswar confessed the killing of her husband Mudhiram Barkakaty (55) and was sent to judicial custody.
The 48 year old woman is the mother of five, two sons and three daughters. She allegedly attacked her husband with a machete and walked nearly five kilometres to surrender before the police.
Lakhimpur police is conducting further investigations into the matter.
