GUWAHATI: Weightlifters from Assam, Bornali Borah and Rekhamoni Gogoi have bagged gold and silver medals respectively, on Tuesday, July 9 at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship in Apia, Samoa.
Borah won gold in the 45 kg junior category and Gogoi secured the silver in the 40 kg youth category.
The winners of this championship will be able to participate in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as this competition is a qualification event for the upcoming Olympics.
The 2019 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship is being held from July 5 to July 15.
It should be noted that Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has also congratulated the duo on Twitter.
