GUWAHATI: With the third wave of flood battering several districts of Assam in the last few days of severe rain, the water level in Guwahati is gradually surging towards the danger mark.
As per the latest bulletin of the Water Resource Division, Guwahati of 28th September, the water level of river Brahmaputra, near DC court is currently at 49.26 meter high, very close to the danger level of 49.68 meters. The Bharalu Sluice Gate has also recorded increase in the water level in the last 24 hours and has reached 49.25 meters, which is very close to the danger mark of 49.50 meters.
"The water level is rising since September 25, due to excessive rainfall & the opening of some dams. The level is expected to rise further," said sources at the Central Water Commission in Guwahati.
As per the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin, nearly 2.25 lakh people have been affected by flood in the districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Nagaon, Majuli, West Karbi Anglong, Sibsagar, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia in this latest flood, that marks this year’s third wave.
Further, one person has been reported dead during the third wave, taking the total death toll to 119. Nearly 219 villages have been flooded.
