GUWAHATI: Manjit Mahanta, the chairman of the media department of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, breathed his last on Monday.
Mahanta passed away at approximately 2 AM on July 10. His mortal remains will be transported from Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) to his residence in Geetanagar and the final rites of him will be conducted at Navagraha, as per media reports.
Manjit Mahanta started his career with Ajir Axom, the then-Assamese daily of The Sentinel Group who was also the Editor-in-Chief of Prime TV.
Later he joined politics and became the Chairman of the media department of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee. In the 2021 Assam Assembly Election, Mahanta contested Dispur Constituency as a Congress candidate.
