GUWAHATI: In a significant move towards digitisation and streamlining of vehicle-related documentation, the Assam government has announced a one-time opportunity for all vehicle owners and driving license holders to digitise their old manual paper-based Driving Licenses (DLs) and Registration Certificates (RCs). The initiative, effective from August 1, aims to transition all manual paper-based DLs and RCs into digital format within a span of three months.

The authorities have urged vehicle owners to take prompt action and digitise their documents to avoid any inconvenience or penalties. After the three-month deadline, driving with non-digitised DLs and RCs will be considered invalid, and violators will be subject to penal action as per the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and Rules.

To facilitate the digitisation process, vehicle owners are required to follow these steps:

Step 1: Apply for backlog data entry online at www.parivahan.gov.in or visit the nearest Common Service Centres (CSCs) with Aadhaar authentication. Upload a copy of the original manual DL/RC for verification.

Step 2: Select the relevant Licensing and Registering authority of Assam, which issued the respective DL/RC.

Step 3: After approval, the digitised data will be made available in the SARATHI / VAHAN portals, as applicable.

Step 4: Once the data digitisation is complete, DL/RC holders must apply online for the renewal of RC/DL if required, and ensure timely payment of any pending Motor Vehicle Tax, Fees, Fines, etc.
