Assam Unveils Plans To Boost Beekeeping Sector

GUWAHATI: Assam's agricultural community is poised for a transformative journey towards commercial success through strategic investments in the flourishing beekeeping sector, as declared by Assam Minister of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Atul Bora.

Bora, who recently participated in the two-day State Workshop on Scientific Beekeeping held in Golaghat, addressed beekeepers from various parts of the state. He emphasised the government's commitment to the "National Beekeeping and Honey Mission," identifying Kamrup, Golaghat, Goalpara, and Baksa districts in Assam for scientific beekeeping in its initial phase. Plans are underway to extend this initiative to other districts in subsequent phases.

An exciting development for the region is the Central Government's approval for the establishment of the North East's first "Honey Testing Lab" in Assam. This significant milestone is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and authenticity of honey produced in the region.

During the workshop, Minister Bora encouraged beekeepers to inspire and involve the youth in the state, fostering a community-driven approach to the growth of beekeeping. The surge in mustard cultivation in Assam is anticipated to complement the efforts of beekeepers, providing them with increased opportunities.
