GUWAHATI: In a move to streamline the functioning of universities and colleges in Assam, the Higher Education Department has issued a comprehensive advisory emphasising the adherence to the norms and guidelines laid out by the National Education Policy (NEP) and the University Grants Commission (UGC).
One of the key highlights of the advisory is the allocation of working hours for faculty members.
According to the new guidelines, the total time to be spent by a faculty in the university premises in a week is calculated to be 40 hours. In light of this, the working hours for faculty members have been standardised from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
This measure intends to ensure that faculty members have sufficient time to dedicate to their teaching, research, and administrative duties.
Furthermore, the advisory specifically addresses the issue of lunch breaks. To align with the practices followed by leading universities and research institutes, the recommended Tiffin/Lunch Hours have been set from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
This provision allows faculty members to take a designated break during the day and rejuvenate themselves, promoting a healthier work-life balance.
