GUWAHATI: Two individuals were reported missing after their boat capsized in the Dibru River, located in Assam's Dibrugarh district on Monday.
The victims, identified as Binoi Sumar and Bedan Murak, remain missing as local authorities and residents rally together in ongoing rescue efforts.
According to media reports, the incident occurred when the duo along with another individual went across the river to collect firewood.
However, upon gathering the wood, they decided for one person to remain and gather more while the other two would ferry the wood back to the Balijan Tea Estate Ghat, their original starting point.
Despite onlookers witnessing the distressing scene, their attempts to intervene and aid the victims were in vain, as the boat capsized before assistance could reach them.
The local community has since mobilised an unrelenting search and rescue operation to locate and retrieve the two men.
