Two Labourers From Assam Buried Alive At Itanagar Construction Site, Two Injured

 

GUWAHATI: Two labourers reportedly lost their lives, and two others sustained injuries following a mudslide at a construction site in Doni Colony, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh on November 26.

All four individuals involved were reportedly residents of Assam.

The accident occurred during excavation work for the construction of a retaining wall when a sudden collapse of earth buried the workers, as per reports. The deceased were repotedly identified as Jahan Hemran (45) and Vijay Bag (46), both hailing from Dhekiajuli, Assam. The injured workers, Ganesh Oran and Joseph Dopnu, were rushed to Rama Krishna Mission Hospital for treatment, as per reports.

Police officer Randhir Kumar Jha, who led the rescue operation with assistance from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local police, reported that the operation lasted from 4 PM to 9 PM. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Itanagar Police Station.

Takar Yangda, the site owner and a resident of Seppa, reportedly explained that the retaining wall was being constructed to safeguard his property from landslides during the rainy season. According to contractor Zahir Hussain, six labourers from Assam had been engaged for the project, four of whom were working at the time of the incident
