Assam Trains Cancelled As Cyclone 'Dana' Advances

GUWAHATI: Several trains have been cancelled as a precautionary measure in light of the anticipated impact of Cyclone 'Dana', which is expected to make landfall on the Odisha coast. The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has announced that trains operating through the region will face cancellations on October 23 and 24.

Among the affected services are the 12552 Kamakhya – SMVT Bengaluru AC Superfast Express, 12514 Silchar – Secunderabad Superfast Express, 22504/22503 Dibrugarh – Kanyakumari – Dibrugarh Vivek Express, and the 12509 SMVT Bengaluru – Guwahati Superfast Express. All these trains were scheduled to start their journeys on October 23 and will not operate due to safety concerns.

Both Odisha and West Bengal are on high alert as Cyclone Dana is forecast to hit the coastline between Puri and Sagar Island late on October 24 or early October 25. The storm is expected to cross the northern Odisha and West Bengal coasts as a severe cyclonic storm, with wind speeds reaching 100-110 km/h, and gusts of up to 120 km/h.
