The initiative, part of the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF), has been taken to enhance educational facilities in vernacular schools across the state.

According to reports, Hojai revealed that the schools were chosen from each of the 126 assembly constituencies, following recommendations from respective MLAs and in line with last year’s budget announcements. “The construction of new buildings for these schools has already begun and is expected to be completed by next year,” Hojai reportedly said.

The project forms part of a broader initiative announced by Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog in the 2024–25 state budget. Neog had committed to transforming the infrastructure of 322 schools with a total allocation of ₹2,369.86 crore.
