GUWAHATI: Assam is planning to establish India’s first AI-powered laboratory to combat deepfake threats and enhance cyber surveillance. The initiative will empower Assam Police with cutting-edge technology to tackle digital fraud, cybercrimes, and misinformation.

This decision was undertaken in the state budget 2025-26 presented on March 10.
The proposed lab will specialise in cybersecurity, digital forensics, and real-time online threat detection, ensuring a robust mechanism to identify and counter deepfake content—a growing concern in the digital era. The advanced AI-driven system will analyze manipulated media, track cyber threats, and provide critical intelligence to law enforcement agencies.
