GUWAHATI: The Assam government has announced plans to launch its own satellite, ASSAMSAT, in collaboration with IN-SPACe (Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center) under the Department of Space, Government of India.

Making the announcement in her budget speech on Monday, March 10, Finance Minister Ajanta Neog said the proposed satellite will ensure a continuous and reliable flow of data crucial for implementing key socio-economic projects across the state. It will provide dedicated services for agriculture, disaster management, infrastructure development, border security, and police operations, enhancing efficiency in these critical sectors.
Additionally, the initiative aims to inspire young minds, as students from Assam’s colleges will be involved in building experimental satellites with the support of IN-SPACe and ISRO. This step is expected to foster scientific curiosity and innovation among the youth, positioning Assam as a key player in India’s space ambitions, the minister said..
