GUWAHATI: A new State School Standard Authority (SSSA) to assess and grade schools in the state is set to be launched by the Assam Government.

This announcement was made by Education Minister Ranoj Pegu during a consultative meeting at the Assam Administrative Staff College in Khanapara.
The SSSA’s role will be to inspect and evaluate schools based on specific criteria, offering insights into those areas that need improvement. Alongside this, a School Quality Assessment and Accreditation Framework (SQAAF) will also be introduced to help implement the grading system, inspired by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) used for higher education institutions.
Pegu also confirmed the upcoming merger of the Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) into the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB). The blueprint for the merger is ready and will be made public on September 13.
Taking to X, Pegu said, “SQAAF will be customised to address the unique geographical, infrastructural, and socio-economic challenges in Assam. For instance, standards for infrastructure will consider flood-prone areas and urban schools with space limitations, in accordance with Section 8.8 of NEP 2020.”
