According to the decision, the Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science at Joyhing, North Lakhimpur, along with the proposed Dairy Science College, will function as constituent colleges under the newly proposed university. The establishment of the Assam Veterinary and Fishery University is envisioned to cater to the growing demand for specialised and skilled human resources in sectors such as livestock, poultry, fisheries, and dairy.

Moreover, it aims to facilitate the transfer of new technologies, management practices, and scientific interventions to farming communities. The proposed university aims to provide expertise, technology, and guidance to farmers, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders, and is expected to generate both direct and indirect employment opportunities.
