GUWAHATI: The Assam cabinet has decided to merge Public Works Department (PWD) and MGNREGA funds under a convergence model for enhanced infrastructure development.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma disclosed this at a press conference after the cabinet meeting held on Monday, May 5.
Under this model, labour and material costs will be sourced from government schemes, while PWD will bear the miscellaneous expenses. This model has been introduced to address limitations under MGNREGA, which does not cover all building materials, while ensuring 100 percent fund utilisation by PWD.
In a related development, the cabinet also approved the decision to provide ₹5 lakh as compensation for victims of the Pahalgam attack after May 12.
