GUWAHATI: The Assam cabinet has approved a fixed monthly remuneration of ₹1,000 for Jal Mitras to oversee sanitation in rural areas.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced this decision after the six-hour long cabinet meeting held on Monday, May 5.
Along with the monthly amount, Jal Mitras will also be eligible for performance-based incentives ranging from ₹500 to ₹2,000, depending on the quality and consistency of their sanitation work.
Another key decision taken during the meeting was the reclassification of government notifications from ‘Official Memorandum’ to ‘Executive Order’ to enhance their administrative weight.
