Assam: Three phase Panchayat Polls by 15th September

GUWAHATI: The Assam Panchayat Polls will be conducted by 15 September in three phases, informed Harendra Nath Bora, Chief Election Officer (CEO) Assam.
 
Keeping in mind the deadline of 15 September, 2018, set up by the Gauhati High Court, the election commission has finalised the polls.

The CEO assured that the election commission is ready for conducting the polls at a short notice. Bora said that due to the NRC updation a large number of government employees are busy in all the districts. This manpower crunch has put constraints on conducting the panchayat polls before 30th June, 2018. 

Bora said that even the deputy commissioners of all the districts have raised doubts for conducting the poll before 30th June due to the non-availability of polling officials.

Once the complete draft is published on 30th June, human resources will be available to be used as poll officials.The 15th September deadline can now be met said Bora.

The commission will get in touch with the state government after 30th June in connection with panchayat polls.The state government had also informed the court that manpower will be available after 30th June.

Bora also informed that the GMC polls will be held in the month of July.
