Assam Teachers Go Digital: Govt Instructs Teachers to Teach via Web Platform

GUWAHATI: The Assam government has instructed school teachers to teach children through WhatsApp and other digital modes like video-conferencing.

The move comes after all educational institutions in the state were closed till March 31 to ensure social distancing as a combat mode against the COVID-19.

The step was taken to meet the learning gaps of children and reduce the probability of dropout.

Meanwhile, the Education Department instructed teachers to provide necessary learning support through phone-based learning materials. The students will do their homework and the teachers will check the answers on WhatsApp.

Speaking to G Plus, a senior teacher of a city-based school said, "We are using Google Duo and other app based methods to take online classes."

"Our management has given us training and also to the students how to go about it, so that the students are least affected in this pandemic," she added.

It is to be mentioned that the schools have been asked to extend academic support from 7 AM - 9 AM or 7 PM - 9 PM.
