Assam Takes Centre Stage As Mahout-Inspired ‘Holo Lolo’ Song Takes Over

GUWAHATI: In a blend of tradition and modernity, Coke Studio Bharat has unveiled "Holo Lolo," a contemporary rendition of Assam's rich musical heritage. This track, the second release of the platform's third season, draws inspiration from the life of a 'phandi'—an elephant trainer capturing the profound bond between the trainer and his elephant companion.

The song features vocals by Shankuraj Konwar and Shalmali Kholgade, seamlessly intertwining Assamese folk elements with Hindi lyrics. It narrates the solitary journeys of the phandi through dense forests and rolling hills, expressing themes of longing and connection to nature. The composition reimagines folklore from Assam's Moran community, blending traditional narratives with contemporary sounds to resonate with today's audience. Inspired by the Moran community of Assam and their mahouts, whose ancient songs build unbreakable bonds with elephants. They have used melodies to train elephants for centuries, and now, their tradition finds a new voice in Coke Studio Bharat’s ‘Holo Lolo’.

The release of "Holo Lolo" not only showcases Assam's musical traditions but also underscores a broader trend of the state's cultural elements gaining prominence on national and international stages.
