Assam Surpasses Kerala in Conducting COVID-19 Tests

GUWAHATI: Assam Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, said that Assam has conducted more COVID-19 tests than Kerala as on date. 

This was claimed by Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who released a series of tweets giving details about the tests.  

The minister further said that in comparison to Kerala’s 52,771 tests, in Assam, so far, 55,862 tests have been conducted. 

He also gave the break up saying that Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) has tested 17,500 samples - highest among all the laboratories in Assam - followed by Barpeta Medical College.

Further, Tezpur Medical College and Hospital will now collect samples automatically unlike the earlier manual way.

TERI have provided loan for the same.

As flights would be operating from the 25th of May, the Assam government has accredited 3 private laboratories for COVID-19 testing from tomorrow.

Moreover, another lab is to be established in Diphu over the next 5 to 6 days, said Sarma.
