Assam: Stranded Daily Wage Labourers to be Allowed to Return Home

GUWAHATI: Daily wage labourers including construction workers and others who are stranded in different parts of Assam, would be allowed to return to their respective homes, informed DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta on Monday, April 20.

A press meet was conducted by the Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna and Mahanta clarifying on the lockdown rules.   

Mahanta informed that a date will be given when all workers who are stranded in other districts of Assam will be allowed to return to their homes. The transportation for this will be provided by the government authorities. 

He added that since most of these workers are stranded in camps and other government facilities, the authorities already have a list of these people.

There are around 9,000 such people within the state. Further, are also 1,642 workers from other states in Assam.

Additionally, 45,000 daily wage workers from Assam are stranded in other states and out of this 13,000 have been provided help by the Assam Bhawans.
