Assam: Storm, Landslides Disrupt Dima Hasao District

GUWAHATI: Dima Hasao experienced significant weather disruptions on Thursday, May 30, due to heavy storms and landslides, impacting various villages and infrastructure.

Storm Damage Report:
•    Affected Areas: The storm affected the Baladhan village and surrounding areas, including Retzawl and Boro Narainpur.
•    Population Impact: A total of 14 people were affected. However, no human lives were lost.
•    Damage to Property: Assessment of damage to kutcha (temporary) and pucca (permanent) houses is ongoing. Retzawl M.E. School has been confirmed as affected.
•    Other Losses: The storm also caused damage to crops, livestock, and communication lines. Further details are under assessment.
•    Relief Efforts: No ex-gratia distribution has been reported yet.

Landslide Damage Report:
•    Affected Areas: Multiple roads and localities, including Mahur, Lungkhok, and Bethel, experienced landslides. Key areas affected include Dehangi-Gunjung Road, Maibang-Semkhor Road, Hejaichak-Kepeiloa Road, Maibang-Khailimdisa Road, P.M.B. – P. Dukaling Approach Road, SS Road, Mahur Lasang Road, NH-27 to Daotuhaja Road, NH-27 to Mahur via Baojen Road, Gunjung-Maibang Road, Laisong-Raja Bazar Road, Lodi Kachari Road, Retzawl-Amranagar Road, NH-54 to Dimbrucherra Road, Jinamghat-Vongzawl Road, and Old Harangajao Railway Station-Maharajpur Village Road.
•    Population Impact: The affected population is currently under assessment.
•    Infrastructure Damage: Major roads and bridges have been damaged, with several locations experiencing road shrinkage and culvert damage.
•    Relief Efforts: One relief camp has been set up, and 32 inmates have been accommodated. No rescue operations have been required so far, and no human lives have been lost or injured in the landslides.

Additional District Commissioner and CEO of the District Disaster Management Authority have confirmed ongoing assessments and the readiness to deploy further resources if required.
