GUWAHATI: An operation initiated by Assam police’s Special Task Force (STF) led to the seizure of 30.653 kg of weed (ganja) and the arrest of two individuals on Thursday, December 19. The operation began on Monday, December 18.

Following extensive night-long surveillance in various locations across Nagaon and Hojai districts, two suspects were eventually intercepted from a passenger bus at around 2:30 PM on National Highway 36, in the Rengbeng locality under Kampur Police Station, Nagaon district.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Papu Das, aged 32, a resident of Jamunamukh in Hojai district, and Fazijul Khan, aged 33, from Barbila village in Tamulpur, Baksa district. Notably, Papu Das is a habitual offender who had been arrested in 2021 in connection with a similar narcotics case.
The operation led to the recovery of eight plastic packets containing weed, weighing a total of 30.653 kg. Additionally, three mobile phones were seized from the accused individuals. All formalities related to the search and seizure were observed by the authorities.
Further investigation is underway to identify and dismantle the wider network involved in this illicit activity at the moment.
