Assam State Zoo Welcomes Giraffe as New Inmate

GUWAHATI: The Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden in an exchange programme between State Zoo and Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park, Patna has acquired a female giraffe.

According to reports, the female giraffe is on its way to the Assam zoo and will reach Guwahati in a couple of days time which was approved by Central Zoo Authority, New Delhi.

Assam Minister of Excise, Forest and Environment, Parimal Suklabaidya taking to the twitter wrote, "Giraffe is on the way to @assamzoo. It will again be part of the Zoo after a long gap of 8 years. The female giraffe is coming from @PatnaZoo under an animal exchange programme approved by Central Zoo Authority, New Delhi." 

Earlier, two female giraffes called Saraswati and Laxmi died in the state zoo due to age-related ailments and this will be the third giraffe after a span of 8 years.
