The incident, which occurred on December 29, has caused embarrassment and concern among union members, who have vowed to address the matter responsibly.

In a statement, the union described the incident as “unfortunate and unacceptable,” acknowledging the seriousness of the issue. To clarify their stance and share further details, the union  scheduled a press conference at the Dispur Press Club at 2 PM today. They have also invited members of the media to attend and engage in discussions on improving the conduct of drivers.

Talking to GPlus, a senior official from the Assam State Driver Union said, “The driver involved is fully responsible for what happened, and such behavior is unacceptable. Air conditioning is a passenger’s basic need, and drivers must ensure that such services are provided without argument. Strict action should be taken against the driver involved to set an example and prevent such incidents in the future."

The union also appealed to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to implement stricter regulations and harsher penalties for drivers who mistreat passengers. They emphasized the need for strong laws to ensure professionalism and accountability among those in the transport sector.

“We urge the Chief Minister to enact strict laws and impose penalties on drivers who act inappropriately. Passengers are like gods to us, and it is our duty to address challenges without engaging in disputes. We want to ensure that such incidents do not tarnish the reputation of our community,” the union further added.
