Assam Shuttlers Shine In Guwahati Masters Badminton Tournament

 

GUWAHATI: Junior World Championship bronze medallist Ayush Shetty and Assam's emerging star Isharani Baruah secured their spots in the main draw of the women's singles category at the inaugural Guwahati Masters Super 100 Badminton Tournament. The action unfolded at the Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium on Tuesday.

Shetty showcased his skills by defeating 7th seed Kiran Kumar Mekala with a scoreline of 21-12, 21-15, followed by a hard-fought victory against Siddharth Pratap Singh, with a score of 21-14, 22-21 in a gripping 41-minute encounter.

Baruah, a key contributor to Assam's women's team gold at the recent National Games in Goa, displayed her mettle by overcoming compatriot Shriyanshi Valishetty 21-15, 21-12. She continued her winning streak by securing a victory against Indonesia's Deswanti Nurtertiati with a scoreline of 21-19, 21-16. She is now set to face the challenge of third-seeded Sung Shuo Yun from Chinese Taipei in the opening round of the main draw.

In the doubles category, Assam's duo Anjan Buragohain and Ranjan Buragohain also secured a spot in the main draw, showcasing their exceptional teamwork on the court. However, Assam's Orijit Chaliha narrowly missed entering the men's singles main draw, succumbing to a close defeat against Tarun Reddy Katam in the final qualifying round with a score of 19-21, 24-22, 21-19.
