Assam Should also be Exempted from CAA: Conrad Sangma

GUWAHATI: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said on Saturday that Assam should be exempted from the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

“We demand that Assam should be exempted from CAA and if possible, different protections should be given to the people of Assam also,” said Sangma while speaking at the 15th Annual General Conference of the Council of Nokmas.

He added that Meghalaya should fully be exempted from the Act as well. “I am thankful to the Government of India for having exempted the state of Manipur, a large part of Meghalaya, but we still demand the Government of India that even the non-scheduled areas in the State of Meghalaya, full Meghalaya, must be exempted,” he said.
