Assam Secures 28 Medals In 36th National Games 2022

GUWAHATI: Assam won a total of 28 medals at the recently concluded 36th National Games held in Gujarat. Among the 28 medals won by the state, 9 were gold, 10 silver and 9 bronze. With this, Assam stands in the 14th position in the final medal tally. A contingent of over 270 represented Assam at the National Games in Gujarat.

The National Games took place in various cities of Gujarat including Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar from September 20 to October 12.

On the final day of the games, the medal tally was led by Services with 128 medals; 61 golds, 35 silvers and 32 bronze. 

The following players won gold from Assam at the 36th National Games:

1.    Amlan Borgohain won gold in the 200-metre Men’s athletic event
2.    Amlan Borgohain won gold in the100-metre Men’s athletic event
3.    Mridul Bora and Ruptu Gogoi won gold in Men’s pair Lawn Bowls
4.    Ananda Kumar Narzary, Putul Sonowal and Mridul Borgohain won gold in Men’s triple Lawn Bowls
5.    Assam won gold in the Women's pair Lawn Bowls
6.    Astha Choudhury won the Women’s 100-metre swimming butterfly event
7.    Shivangi Sarma won gold in the 100-metre freestyle swimming event
8.    Lovlina Borgohain won gold in the 75kg Middle Weight category in Boxing
9.    Ankushita Bora won gold in the Women’s 66kg Welterweight category in Boxing

Almost 7,000 athletes from 28 Indian States, eight Union Territories and Services, and the sports team of the Indian Armed Forces, were competing for medals in 36 different sports events.

These include traditional Olympic disciplines as well as indigenous sports like Mallakhamb, Kho Kho and Kabaddi, among others. Saavaj, the Asiatic Lion was the official mascot for the National Games 2022.
