Assam: Seat Reservation For Women In Local Body Elections; BJP Mahila Morcha Thanks CM

GUWAHATI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced the reservation of seats for women in the upcoming urban body and municipal elections that are scheduled to be held in Assam in February and April of 2022.

Attending a Mahila Morcha meet in Tezpur, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on December 5 that seats will be reserved for women in the upcoming local body elections. For those wards where the election is won by a women candidate, the seat will be kept reserved for the next 10 years.

The President of BJP Mahila Morcha, Assam, Angoorlata Deka on Tuesday, December 7, thanked the Chief Minister for his announcement. Deka said that the Government is working for the holistic development of women of Assam and 75 percent of the government schemes are aimed towards the development of women. 

“In the coming days, the Mahila Morcha will have to work to prepare women to shoulder important leadership roles,” Deka added. She further said that considering the prevailing circumstances, women have to be made physically and mentally stronger. 

Further, Angoorlata Deka said that the training session will be organised in all districts by the Mahila Morcha to help build more, stronger women.
