The patient has been identified as Matiur Rahman aged 62 years who came into contact with an existing patient who was in MMC hospital and that is how he got infected.

"We had placed him under quarantine in a Centre and so we believe that he would not be able spread the infection to too many people. Secondly, from tomorrow we will be opening the state and district health centres for the public," said Himanta Biswa Sarma.

It is observed that in India cases have come up within as long as 28 days, hence the state govt has extended the quarantine period to 28 days for people who have come into direct contact with Covid patients.
